Straight Talk iPhone 5 without a SIM card, no data

I have an iPhone 5 from Walmart on their unlimited Straight Talk plan. This phone does not use a SIM card. If I do not have a wifi signal, I cannot use any data and cannot send picture messages. Straight Talk support has not been able to help. I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions. Also, I've upgraded to os 6.1.3. So I can't jailbreak it either.

If you have a ST plan but still don't have a data connection something is wrong with your operator connection. First check that you have cellular data switched on in Settings / General / Cellular. If it's off turn it on and all should be ok. If not...

These phones run on Verizon and other CDMA networks but have a SIM slot. Did you do something like insert a SIM anyway? This can reset your data APN's Sounds like that's what happened. Ask StraightTalk for their APN and you can adjust it manually is Settings / General / Cellular / Cellular Data Network.

I did not insert a sim card. Cellular data is on and has been on the entire time. When I go to settings/general/cellular there is no option for cellular data network. I have even called *22890 for Straight Talk to program it over the phone. I have visited unlockit.co.nz to install the APN settings for Straight Talk. When I called their support they want me to hang up and call from a different phone, but I don't have another phone. Contacting them through email resulted in them telling me to call the support number. I can't seem to find a fix for this issue.

There is no sim in my phone right now and voice calls work fine, as well as text messages. The data will work with wifi, but not 3G and picture messages won't work with 3G either. I've had this phone for about 2 months and it's never had a sim card. Its CDMA (not sure what that means, but everyone keeps saying that's why it doesn't require a sim).

7. Does my iPhone use a SIM card?

No. Although your iPhone on Straight Talk may contain a SIM slot, DO NOT insert a SIM card into it. Your iPhone on Straight Talk works on a CDMA network; inserting a SIM card could alter your settings and stop it from working properly.

Just doing a google search of 'iphone 5 straight talk no data' yields a lot of forums and pages that discuss this issue. So, it must be a fairly common problem; however, almost every fix I've found requires sim cards, jailbreaking, or things I've already tried. Since mine's a CDMA, sim card fixes are a no go, and since I'm running os 6.1.3., jailbreaking won't work. Right now I'm at a loss and am just hoping someone knows a fix that'll work.

Is that specific for the iPhone 5 though? Or is it referring to the 4S? The 4S doesn't require a SIM on Verizon's CDMA network, however, the 5 does. The only way I could imagine it might not on Straight Talk would be if it is only running on the CDMA part of the network.

At least one website I checked indicated that the iPhone 5s were using AT&T's network.

I still think it's related to operator settings. Did you follow all the instructions here http://iphone.straighttalk.com/? Especially the following.

To activate your service, go to straighttalk.com/Activate or call 1-877-877-1986 from another phone. You will need the MEID Number (also known as the Serial Number) which is located on the red Activation Card and on the bottom of the iPhone box in the IMEI/MEID field. You will also need a Straight Talk Unlimited Service Plan, which you can purchase at participating Walmart stores or with a credit card as part of the Activation process.

After completing the Activation, you will need secure Wi-Fi access OR a computer (requires PC or Mac) with the latest version of iTunes and an internet connection. To begin, simply turn your iPhone on, follow the prompts, and then choose a method to set up your iPhone:

Using Wi-Fi: Simply select “Use Wi-Fi” then follow the on-screen prompts. When you receive the “Carrier Settings Update” pop-up, make sure to select “Update”; the phone will return to the main screen as the update runs in the background. This process can take up to a few minutes, depending on the speed of your Wi-Fi connection. Note: No SIM card is required for your iPhone, so disregard any messages asking for one.

Using iTunes via a computer: Simply open the latest version of iTunes on your Mac or PC computer, then connect your iPhone to it using the USB cable that came in your package. Once you read and agree to the License Agreement, sync your iPhone with iTunes. You will receive a pop-up asking if you would like to download an update for your carrier settings—select “Download and Update.” Note: If you receive an alert saying there is no SIM card installed in the iPhone—simply ignore and select continue. No SIM card is required for your iPhone.

** After completing the setup, you MUST call *22890 from your iPhone to program it.

I bought this phone about 2 months ago and activated it using itunes on my laptop. I believe I followed all of those steps. Like I said, I've had it for 2 months and phone calls and text messaging work fine, as well as data when connected to a wifi source. The only problem is no data or picture messages when using 3G. Voice calls and text messages still work with 3G. I'm wondering if I reset my phone back to factory settings, and then reactivate it, if that would work. I did just back it up a few hours ago.

I am having the same issue that you were having with my straight talk iPhone. I have had this phone for about 7 months and i even updated to the latest iOS with out any issues. One day my decided to just a freeze a couple of times so i just reset all the settings. Did you ever figure out this issue. I have also talked to the help desk and they even gave me a direct line to customer service through NET 10. I would really like to know if this issue was ever resolved for you.
