How can I STOP iCloud form accessing my calendars??

I want to use iCloud ONLY for finding my devices, NOT storing my calendars ,etc. I prefer to sync athem with the iPhone & iPad.

When I log onto iCloud, it allows me to uncheck iPhotos, Calendars o nthe cloud etc at the beginning, but then lists them, with all checcked, and if I uncheck, it wants to delete them from my Mac.

I don't want that. Why in the world won't it just let me have my calendars on my Mac and not in the cloud? Why would it delete them from my mac, and not give me an option to just have them on my mac and not in the cloud?

Has Apple been secretly been taken over by Microsoft, since this is the kind of stupid thing they try to impose on you.
