Mac Mail stops receiving message - based on Message content

We have now run into this problem multiple times. We are using Mountain Lion with latest updates with Exchange 2010. We have been working in this environment for several years through upgrades in Exchange and OSX with no issues. Recently we noticed one of our users stopped seeing updates in her Inbox. We would look at this in Microsoft's web mail (OWA) and saw current messages. We were finally able to narrow down the scope to the removal of one message that got things rolling again:

Both the From name and the subject contain control characters. Once this message was removed from the Inbox, all email after that point started to come in. We have now had this happen to this user twice. This does NOT happen with the Outlook client and OWA. This looks to be a bug a in the Mail client. We went back to Lion and Snow Leopard with no luck.
