how do i get a warranty on my ipod?

okay , so i have an ipod touch and its the 5th generation ios 5.1.1 and my home and lock buttons wont work therefore i have to use my charger to turn it on everywhere i go or i keep it on NEVER , so it wont lock up ! And yesterday i tried charging it but my LOCK SCREEN never came on. And then when i took my charger out my apple device a peice came out with it ! so of course i was mad and scared ! then when i put my device into the light to see what was wrong , i noticed my parts inside the device where up and broken ! so i was wondering how to get an warranty on my IPod ! Yes , this has happened before when i had my IPhone! I was hardheaded and didnt listen when my Aunt told me to get a warranty when i waited at the last minute ! so i was wondering can i still or can i get a warranty period?!

The iPod comes with a 1-year warranty without extra cost. You can check your coverage by entering the iPod's SN here:

Apple - Support - Check Your Service and Support Coverage

You can make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store and discuss it with them. Note that damage caused by mishandling/abuse is not covered by the warranty.
