Hi, I'm quite a techie phobe but currently use our iPad (without 3g) at home using home broadband. We are going abroad (to spain) and would like to still go online. Is there any temporary Internet we can buy? People have mentioned USB sticks, but where do they plug in? The place we are staying doesn't have wifi so that's not an option. You can purchase mobile hotspots for the iPad. You can Google "mobile hotspots" or "MIFI" and see what you can come up with. The device will act as the hotspot but you will still need to buy a data plan and I assume that you would have to purchase a plan in Spain. I'm not sure how those plans work internationally. I have a Verizon MIFI that I use here and it is on a month to month plan without a contract, but I've never tried using it out of the country.
You cannot connect a cell USB stick to an iPad. What you are looking for is a MiFi device. Talk to your cell provider for your phone and see if they have anything you can use or check with someone where you are going to be staying and see what they recommend.
USB dongles will not work with an iPad. If you have a WiFi-only iPad, then your options are to use public WiFi, see if any of the carriers offer MiFi devices on a short-term basis, or tether through a cell phone's connection.

Thank you for all of your answers, I'm staying at my parents villa who have no interned whatsoever and it would be used during the evening to keep my children entertained so cafes etc wouldn't help. Ill contact my mobile provider (O2) and see if they can help but I will google mifi too, thanks
A lot of the cafes and bars in Spain have free WiFi. Give them a try.
If you know any of your parents neighbors I would also ask them, they have already faced this problem.
