It seems the iPhone will not allow you to conference calls from your contact that have a pause or wait in them. Is there a workaround?
Steps to recreate the issue
1. Dial a number from your contact
2. Press add call to start a conference call
3. Select a number from your contacts that has a 'pause' or 'wait' in it
4. Only the first number will dial, the dialing does not resume with numbers after the pause; there is no option to dial the number after 'wait' either
