My Ipod shows the folder with the exclamation icon and if i do the start-select trick it still shows it, what do i do? My ipod also does not show up in Itunes.
I think my ipod is a 5th generation, but i am not sure. I bought the ipod second-handed

That often means the iPod's hard drive (if it's a "classic" iPod with a hard drive for storage) has become faulty. Make sure you have done a Reset as described in the document

When you do the Reset, the screen should go blank for a moment.
Thank you for the reaction, but when i Reset the iPod the screen will go off for a moment, and then show the folder icon again. What do i do now?
Unfortunately, that often means the iPod's hard drive has become faulty. The iPod is not able to access its storage. If that is the case, the only thing you can do is repair it by replacing the faulty part.

Because there was nothing i could do, i decided to take the iPod apart. I took out the microprocessor and the battery. Then, i put them back in. When i fired the iPod up again, it displayed the icon with the dead iPod and the exclamation mark. What do i do now?
That's not any better than the folder with exclamation point. I think the error is now occuring even earlier in the startup process.
