I have iBooks 3.1 but I do not have option to highlight text for study

I have iBooks 3.1 but it does not give me option to highlight text in color for studying,, my os is up to date. When I attempt to highlight it only gives option to copy or define or search, not highlight

iPad 2 Wi-Fi + 3G, iOS 6.1.3
