Q: can't sign in

Can't get signed in to iCloud. The iCloud help page, under Trouble signing in says, "Important:  If you use the same Apple ID for iCloud as you do for other Apple services, such as the Apple Online Store, iTunes Store, ... changing your iCloud account password also changes your password for those services." I changed my password for the store thinking that might help. Nope. I don't know how to change the password for my iCloud account. Every time I sign in to iCloud a message comes up that says, "Cannot Sign Up ... The Apple ID is valid but is not an iCloud account."

Cut to the chase, how can I get signed in to iCloud?!

Thanks much.

    Howdy, troysantos!

It looks like you'll need to set up the account to through an iOS device or on a Mac running Lion or Mountain Lion before the actual iCloud account is created (it is somewhat a separate beast from your Apple ID).

The following article has links for setting this up on your Mac or you iOS device.

How do I sign up for iCloud?

You can sign up for iCloud on an iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch with iOS 5 or later, or through System Preferences on a Mac with OS X Lion v10.7.4 or later. Just follow the setup instructions for your iOS device or Mac.

Note: You may need to verify the email address that you use for your Apple ID. See Frequently Asked Questions About Apple ID for more information.

This should enable logging in through the iCloud.com website.

HIYA! Thanks for the response. I use Windows, not iOS, but that's not the problem, right? I know my Apple ID and I've set and reset my password, but can't get signed in with any password, current or old. Nothing works. I keep getting the message that says my ID or password was incorrect. Well ... shucks ... dunno what ta do. But I sure would appreciate another suggestion. I've reinstalled iCloud but that didn't do it either. Actually, I didn't uninstall before reinstalling. That doesn't matter though, right?

    I appreciate your help.

Have you actually set up an iCloud account in the past, so that you have one but cannot get into it? Or are you trying to set up an iCloud account from scratch? If the latter, I'm afraid you can't do this on Windows, you can only do it from an iOS device or a Mac:

    http://www.apple.com/icloud/setup/pc.html

    states:

'To enable iCloud on your Windows PC, first set up iCloud on your other devices, then install the iCloud Control Panel for Windows (Windows Vista with Service Pack 2 or Windows 7 required).'

You're kidding!! The latter. I've got iCloud on my netbook, with a Windows OS, of course. Now why in the world would Apple create a program that can be used on a PC but which you'd need a iOS to create an account? Seriously, I'm really curious. Thanks a ton Roger.

I have no idea: Apple don't share their reasoning with mere mortals like myself.
