Q: I have iTunes version 11.02.26 running on windows XP. Importing CD's to iTunes and then moving music files to to external drive to keep space on lap top available. Lost iTunes Library and iTunesMusic folder association . Any easy way to reestablish?

I have iTunes version 11.02.26 running on windows XP. Had to replace an external drive recently. Decided to take opportunity to import all my CDs to iTunes then copy/transfer iTunesMusic folder to external drive to save space on laptop. Lost association of majority of associations between iTunesLibrary and iTunesMusic Library. Is there anyway to get it back, short of reimporting CDs?

    Point my script FindTracks at the folder you've moved things to...

     

    See make a split library portable for tips on getting your library properly organized on the external drive.

     

    Actually it might be easier to do it the other way around... Move the library folder to <External>\iTunes, move the media to <External>\iTunes\iTunes Media then open the library file <External>\iTunes\iTunes Library.itl and use FindTracks to fix anything that is broken.
