Safari keeps reverting to mobile site on MAC laptop

HELP! I had issues with my browser ( Safari 10.7 ) that keeps reverting to mobile sites. For example on Yahoo, the main page is regular but clicking on any link automatically sends it to a mobile format and I am unable to read/view it on my macbook.

I have been to the Apple store and they replaced my hard drive. It solved the problem for 3 days and now it is back to acting up again.

Is there a solution? What or where can I find out how to disable the mobile browser on my macbook?

I am so frustrated as this continues happening and the Apple genius was clueless as to what caused it....

MacBook Pro (13-inch Early 2011), Mac OS X (10.7), iphone 5 and macbook

Hello, SharonKantar!

It sounds like the 'User Agent' that Safari is reporting to be has been changed.

The following document both explains what a 'User Agent' is, and how to change it:

Safari 5.1 (OS X Lion): Develop menu

http://support.apple.com/kb/PH5057

Note: If the Develop menu does not appear in the menu bar, open Safari preferences, click Advanced, and select “Show Develop menu in menu bar.”

User Agent | Lets you change how your web browser is identified by the web server. Use this option to “spoof” the web server into thinking that you’re using a different browser, operating system, or version of Safari, so you can investigate whether the server is providing different content under varying conditions.

If the User Agent has been changed to anything that starts with 'Safari iOS', then webpages will automatically provide you with mobile versions of their pages.

This is because it appears to the website that you are on an iOS device, and not a MacBook Pro.

I would recommend setting this to 'Default (Automatically Chosen)', or 'Safari ..... Mac' if the behavior continues.

If that doesn't resolve the issue, I'd consider contacting Apple Support.

Hi Allen!

Thank you for the information! I tried the developer and the user agent was on default. I switched it to the Mac Safari and it keeps reverting to mobile and the Default. I am wondering if I should remove and reinstall safari and see what happens? I may have to contact Apple Support , as I had previously been to the Genius bar and they couldn't seem to understand why this happened either.

I do appreciate your help! :-)
