Q: VERY slow startup if at all and I can't find the "apple hardware test" on my computer

option+D doesn't do it and I can't find it on my Snow Leopard install disk.

 

Startup fails usually--can't click on anything though display looks normal. Sometimes the color wheel stalls. Many tries and it occasionally works. Best chance is when it's been allowed to cool completely--then it seems to work on one of the first few tries. When it does work, closing it doesn't put it to sleep and re-opening it gets a black screen. Then first attempt to startup gets grey screen, no chime. Second try gets chime then very slow normal startup except no clicker.  I wanted to try the hardware test but can't find it.

1 GHz 17 Powerbook, Mac OS X (10.3.x)

    I found the AHT on my original disks and it runs--but apparently gives up after the first pass memory test. Nothing more happens and sometimes the display freezes. I changed the motherboard iin this machine last summer so the serial number is different from the original--any chance this version of the AHT is not compatible? It's version 3A135, my serial number is W88360FWYP3. Anyone know anything about this?

    If you can, try to boot into recovery mode and attach an external drive. Use Disk Utility to check for any error. If there are no errors, then copy everything into the new drive and buy a new mac. Then copy all the data into the new computer.
