Flickering text on Safari (Mountain Lion)

Recently (including right now) text fields in Safari fail to display correctly, making typing anything on the browser a nightmare. Refreshing the page usually corrects the problem, but otherwise text flickers, the cursor jumps back and forth while typing and occasional large white blocks obscure text on websites. No other programs are affected, other than Safari. I don't really want to reinstall Mountain Lion entirely just to reinstall Safari, is there a fix for this? Thanks.

From the menu bar, select

Edit Substitutions

and uncheck Text Replacement.

If there's no change, select

Safari Preferences Extensions

Turn all extensions OFF and test. If the problem is resolved, turn extensions back ON and then uninstall them one or a few at a time until you find the culprit.

If you wish, you may be able to salvage the malfunctioning extension by reinstalling it. That will revert its settings to the defaults.
