Where can I get the old HP printer software?

Apple does not seem to host any of it's old HP Printer Software, as any links to older versions seem to either now link to HP Printer Software v2.14 or doesn't exist anymore.

I have HP 4100 series printers that are giving me a Service Erorr of 49.4C02 when I print various PDF docs to them. Originally, I thought this was the printer, jetdirect card, or a firmware issue. Then after updating the HP Printer Software on another machine, it is now doing the same thing.

I now have 4 different Macs and have tested this on 4 different HP 4100 series printers. The issue is with the HP Printer Software Update pushed through Apple, and I cannot find their old packages to try and revert. These machines don't have a Time Machine Backup to go to, so reverting to that is out of the question. I just would like to completely delete the "Library/Printers/HP" and start over, but would like an older version that I know was working before.

I would like to try version 2.10, 2.11, or even 2.12, as I don't know if it broke at 2.13 or 2.14.

I thought it was a specific printer, but then swapped jetdirect cards, and the same print job from the same machine broke a different printer of similar make. I thought it was a specific computer, but then I ran software update on others, and they are now sending out jobs that break the printer.

The HP Printer Software Update v2.14 is definitely breaking the Laserjet 4100 series printers when printing over the network to Jetdirect cards. Insanely frustrating, since it requires restarting the printer and manually cancelling the job before it crashes the printer again.

There are various printers HP designates with the number 4100. But since you specified LaserJet, it would be this page for Snow Leopard.

Edit: Reading a bit further on HP's site, you're not supposed to download or use any of their LaserJet 4100 drivers for 10.5.x, or older versions of OS X. For Snow Leopard, 10.6.x, you're just supposed to use the ones provided with OS X.

Thanks for the replies WZZZ andKurt. However, HP doesn't host any of it. They just redirect to Apple, who only shows their most recent package.

All I can do is redownload the HP Printer Software version 2.14 from either "Software Update" (which I did, and wish I hadn't) or a standlone of the exact same version.

I need the older versions, becuase the new ones break the printers.

This is HP LaserJet 4100(various letters here, doesn't seem to matter which specific model)series.

I know companies like adobe have FTP sites that function as a repository of some sort, but I have been unable to find anything similar.

Hmm, you're rather stuck reinstalling Snow Leopard to get it back to the older version. Then when you run Software Update, do not let it install the HP update. Instead, highlight that update and press the Delete/Backspace key. You will be asked if you want to ignore that update. Click OK. No matter how many times you run Software Update after that, the HP update will not show up.

WZZ, appreciate the advice.

Today I managed to hunt down version 2.11 of the HP Software update at

http://drivers.softpedia.com/get/PRINTER/HP/HP-Printer-Driver-211-for-Mac-OS.sht ml

On one of the problematic machines/printer combos I removed all of the old HP Software and printers. The steps taken were pretty much identical to those provided by HP at

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?cc=us&lc=en&dlc=en&docname=c02440673 #N1301

After deleting the files and removing the printers I then installed the HP Software Update from the 2.11 package, and added my HP Laserjet 4100 series printer back to the machine.

Printed the same pdf file that had caused 49.4c02 error just minutes earlier with the old drivers, and I crossed my fingers to watch the job actually pop out.

So HP Laserjet 4100 series owners, I would highly suggest not installing the HP Software update 2.14

If you do, I hope that the 2.11 version linked above will still be active.

Thanks for the advice of those posting in this forum.
