Looks like no one’s replied in a while. To start the conversation again, simply ask a new question.

Today I installed OSX over my 10.6.8 and Safari does not function properly. Have also lost Copernicus. Can this be fixed?

Yesterday I purchased QSX 10.8.3 which downloaded over my 10.6.8. Immediate result was loss of Copernicua and

Safari doing daft things like refusing to download programs as requested. Is there a possibility of repairing this or of getting my old system back, with or without a refund of my $19.99 ?

iMac, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.3), OSX 10.8.3 installed over 10.6.8

Just a moment.... I have just observed that my little trash icon basket (which is alawys empty) had something in it.

I opened it up and there are five zipped items. I extracted one,,,, skitch 2.5.09.21-152.zip..

A little red heart with SP below it appears near the top of my screen. I opened it up and there is a Skitch window requesting URL, Evernote user name and password.....

Odd that they went straight into trash. Is this normal?

Hello again.

No trouble following your advice. Changed Safari Preferences as you indicated and removed a tick from the "Open safe files after downloading box".

There were twenty six assorted hearts and zipped files, all from Skitch, in the trash bin. Is it safe for me to empty it?

There is now a new red heart icon on my tray.

A window comes up when I tried the red heart icon. It asks for an Evernote User name. What do I say?

You have been a gem shepherding me through this OSX malady. I really appreciate your forebearance and patience.

Thank you. I have selected 'Empty the Trash' .and the indicator is driibling along ever so slowly. Somehow it is emptying over 8,000 items. Seems that those assorted bits of Skitch were awefully plump with items....

Also notice that my red heart icon has vanished in the process. I shall try to download it again should I lose it. I hope that they will not be angry with me..

This will be my last note to you today as I must dress for an engagement. May I contact you tomorrow morning afer I try to re-download Skitch .......ever so carefully ? I am enormously curious to see where the download will appear, If it ever does.....

The copernicus download from softonic works here (a temporary outage?), and provides a dmg which seems genuine.

However, I'd avoid softonic as a rule, after their recent bundling of dubious software along with applications.

it's possible to get the app via

hopefully it'll work ok on 10.8.3

Good morning, Bright sunny and beautiful. Birds chirp and the sea at the foot of our garden twinkles merrilly.

We have spent a ton of time together. I am aware that you are fully cognisant and perceptive in your chosen field and that you have a gentle helpfull manner. This is relfected by your responses to my problems with OSX.

Odd, when you think of it, I had a fully functional system in 10.6.8. and I should have left it alone

.

I have now learned a valuable lesson. To leave well enough alone and to ignore the temptations of advertising.

I feel that I can talk you as a chum, by asking if there is a choice of reclaiming my old system.

Mountain Lion OSX offers me only an unrequired Cloud system and a bland colourless Email page, which Jeannie does not care for.

If you could assist by deleting my new OSX system and reverting it to my former 10.6.8,.... All my current problems will cease and desist.

Please.....

If you made a complete backup (Time Machine or Clone) it's fairly easy, if you did not it is not easy at all (I will in fact refuse to take you in that direction)

And ML (for me) is faster and easier to use than SL, as well as having some features that I need, I would persevere with ML, the learning curve is not is so bad.

And in reference to point 1, if you don't have a backup system in play, add that to your to do list, never work without one.

Gosh you were fast in response.

Backup...

Yes I did try to make a backup prior to downloading OSX, but it was made on an external drive WD Elements 1TB/To which I purchased with this Imac. I was never too clever at these things AND I do not quite trust a black glossy rectangle which you plug in and which does not inform any-one as to its functionings..

I would be loathe to trust it.... Save in an emergency,

Still, as they said in my old RAF Squadron, " Plod on Regardless "

Life is a constant adventure and OSX is just another which I shall have to embark upon and nobble;.....

I shall accept the sagacity of your advice and PERSEVERE..

One day, I am sure, I shall blunder upon another program which Mac will accept. One which will enable me to draw a wee frame around a written article on my screen, then print-out only that bit which I have selected...

Should you ever stumble over a simple program, as mentioned above, please give me a ding at any time..... Day or Night.

It has been a pleasure and delight working with you.

Use that drive in conjunction with Time Machine, that's a reliable method.

I had an Uncle who flew coastal patrol in WW2 (from Biggin Hill, among others). The rest of the family was Navy so he was the Brylcreem Boy. I thank you for your service.

Have you tried using the inbuilt functions (Shift Command 3 takes a picture of the entire screen, Shift Command 4 allows you to select part of the screen) The file will be placed on your desktop, double click and it will open in Preview, where (if you turn on the Edit Bar from the view menu) you can frame or annotate it in several simple ways.

BLOODY BRILLIANT !

My God you've done it...

I used your advice to the letter and, by golly, it seems to be just about what the doctor ordered.

I trust I shall improve with practice .

Delighted that you mentioned your avuncular connection to the mob.

I was Compulsory National Service during the Korea thingy. Straight from High School into the RAF without an option. for nearly five years. After qualifying, I flew a P.R. Mosquitoe with 81 Squdron (Non solum Nobis)....

I even served under Group Captain Grice who was the Commanding Officer of RAF Tengah, Singapore. He was also C.O. of Biggin Hill during the Battle of Britain. It appears that your uncle and I both knew the same fellow quite well......................

What an incredibly tiny wee world we blunder about in.

As a post scriptum, I noticed that an andyBallUK had a similar Copernicus quandary...I trust that you suggested the same remedy that you offerred to me.

Thank you again.
