Logic Pro unexpectedly quit and now won't open at all please help!!

Hi all,

I have a Macbook Pro, 10.7.5 - just the standard one. I use Logic Studio (Logic Pro 9) and normally it works fine but the other day I tried to bounce a track and I got the beachball of death and the message 'Logic Pro has quit unexpectedly, a version has been saved xxxxx (crashed) etc'. This happened everytime I tried to save or bounce or import, in any session - a blank one, or an old one.

So I did some research and on an apple support page ended up deleting the 'Prokit' thing from my library, and downloading the new one (Prokit update 7 I think). I tried opening Logic again and got this message:

'Logic Pro cannot be opened because of a problem.

Check with the developer to make sure Logic Pro works with this version of Mac OS X. You may need to reinstall the application. Be sure to install any available updates for the application and Mac OS X.

Click Report to see more detailed information and send a report to Apple.'

I gave up a bit at this point, and thought I'd uninstall/delete every trace of Logic from my laptop, including the items in preferences (this was recommended online somewhere). I went through the (lenghty!!) process of reinstalling Logic and all the audio content and extra CDs, and the problem is still exactly the same and I can't open Logic.

Can anyone please help? I'm lost without being able to use Logic every day, any advise would be great!!

And I've also just updated Logic and still no luck.

Thanks,

David

Hi

Sounds like you may have trashed some important System files.

It would be worth taking a look at the "more detailed info" in the crash report and posting it here.

Other than that,

If you have already been through the "Trash Logic Preferences", re-install Logic from scratch routine, I would suggest

a) Make a safety clone of your entire HD using Carbon Copy Cloner or similar,

b) then re-install the OS and any subsequent OS updates. You could do this using the Lion Recovery disk, or download the Lion Installer from the Appstore directly.

Deleting Logic's user preferences is worth a try.

Scroll down the page until you find the heading

http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2375

Also, make sure you don't need the 10,7,5 supplemental update.

http://support.apple.com/kb/dl1599

You're going to use Logic? You will get better using technology especially if you're going to start randomly deleting system files.

I've now done both those things you mentioned, but no luck. Still the same message and no sign of Logic wanting to open!!

Reinstall the OS (after you have made a safety backup)

edit

For clarity, there is no need to reformat drives, wipe drives etc, simply re-install the Lion OS on top of the current OS (again ... after you have made a safety backup clone)

Arghhhhhhhh...

  1. Type ~/Library/Preferences in the "Go to the folder" field.
  2. Press the Go button.

Ok, you've done the above.

Did you delete the control surfaces file as well?

com.apple.logic.pro.cs

And.. have you installed any third party plugins like Melodyne or Reason?

Hi

I have no idea how to post a crash report, or where to find it!!

Go to the Utilities Folder and open Console

Under User Diagnostic Reports there will be entries for Logic Pro. Find the latest one, select all the text from that Crash Log, copy it and then post it here by pasting into the "Post" window.

Crash Log says it all... you are missing the ProKit library.

I presume that you have tried to re-download and install the Prokit?

If yes and still no joy, I would re-install the OS as per my earlier posts
