Q: airport won't recognize password

I can''t get my iBook to work on my local network. It will not recognize the password to the network. I have tried everything I can think of. I was going to reinstall the original disk but of course can't find it.

any suggestions. OSX 10.4.11

model of ibook, Powerbook 4,2

Thanks Tom Piper

Hello and welcome to the support community

What security settings has your router been set to?

If your trying to connect to a wireless router with encryption type of WPA2 then it  will not work with your version of the iBook, which only has an Airport card installed. Try changing the router security encryption to WEP.

Thanks very much Knucklesmac. The wireless section of the router says WPA-PSK[TKIP} + WPA2-PSK(AES)

If I change it to wep will my other wireless devices be able to communicate ok? I have a new wifi printer which I would not like to have to configure again. The thing is The iBook is for my wife to use at a local cafe Neros to get to her file in dropbox. If the wifi doesn't work here- in the house I can't imagine it working outside the house... ???

Thanks so much for your help and attention. Tom Piper

    Hello,

What most people (Like myself) do, is create a guest wifi in the house. make that WEP and use that to connect your iBook to. As for Cafe Neros, in most cases it should be fine to connect there. I've never found a wifi 'Hot Spot' that my iBook Clamshell wouldn't connect fine to. Not to say their security settings have been significantly updated and it wont connect, to find out, try connecting to their wifi, while your next in there.

    Bets of luck
