iPhoto not supporting .CR2 files from new Canon SL1

Just bought my new Canon SL1. Took some photos and tried to import them into iPhoto. The "RAW" or .cr2 files aren't supported. Seriously? Anyone know a way around this that allows me to keep the RAW format?

OSX and iPhoto are updated and current.

Come on, Apple.

If you want to "come on Apple then you need to contact them - this is strictly a user to user forum

What version of iPhoto do you have?

Given you attitude I certainly would think you would have verified that the RAW for your camera is offered - I do not see it on the list - http://support.apple.com/kb/ht5371 - so appearently there is no reason to expect that it is supported

Suggest to Apple - iPhoto menu ==> provide iphoto feedback

There is no help. Popular cameras will probably be supported but there is always a lag between the release of the camera and the support arriving. This is because the camera makers don't share the data Apple/whoever, so they have to get the camera and reverse engineer the support. So, c'mon Canon.

First you should have done some research and learn what cameras are currently supported by Mt. Lion. You'd have realized that your camera wasn't yet supported.

So until it is you can try using Adobe's Raw File converter to convert them to DMG files which iPhoto can use or just shoot jpegs. This should be of help to you: LINK

The new Canon SL1 is truly remarkable especially for travel. Unfortunately iPhoto 11 does not yet recognize the CR2 files. Until Apple does an upgrade the easiest work around is to either take only L (jpg) images or use Digital Photo Professional (Canon software) then select all-under Edit, then transfer to Photoshop-under Tools. You can then edit the files in photoshop and/or import them into iPhoto
