No security question option for recovering old Apple ID

I have an old Apple ID associated with an email address I no longer have access to. As such, I can't get or change the password for this account. All the forums I've been reading say to use the "security question" option which would be great except that when I attempt to reset the password, it only gives me the option to do email authorization (see screencap) which, as I no longer have access to the particular email account is useless.

I'm trying to update iMovie, iPhoto and GarageBand which are all apparently a part of the old account.

I've contacted iTunes Support but from what I hear they don't do so well with the speedy response and I have an editing project I really need to get finished. Any suggestions?
