I had my iPad in my backpack and my genus friend decided to throw it over the lockers.  I went over to check and it was completely shattered!  My friend who did it gave me 75$ to fix it and he told me about the cracked iPhone screen repair stores.  I heard that they are unreliable and if they mess up Apple won't help me? What do I do?  I don't think I have the Apple care.  It's an iPad 2 so i might now be able to get a new one for quite cheap...I'm not sure.  Any advise would be helpful.  Thanks

Apple's Limited Warranty http://www.apple.com/legal/warranty/ for iPad excludes coverage for damage resulting from accident, disassembly, unauthorized service and unauthorized modifications.

    Out-of-Warranty Service

If you own an iPad that is ineligible for warranty service but is eligible for Out-of-Warranty (OOW) Service, Apple will replace (Apple doesn't repair) your iPad with an iPad that is new or equivalent to new in both performance and reliability for the Out-of-Warranty Service fee listed below. (The replacement will most likely be a refurbished iPad in a brown box, however, it has a new screen, back and battery.)

Certain damage is ineligible for out-of-warranty service, including catastrophic damage, such as the device separating into multiple pieces, and inoperability caused by unauthorized modifications. However, an iPad that has failed due to contact with liquid may be eligible for out-of-warranty service. Hello,

While I know this can be a real pain and alot to deal with it might be a project you might want to tackle yourself. The price through Apple is great when you consider a professional who has done this before will be doing the process. Depending on how technical you are you might want to dive in yourself. I have copied a link to a great site that even has tool kits included. Please let me know if I can help further.

While this may or may not lead to a lesser expense, opening and/or

self repairing an iPad will make you ineligible for an out of warranty

replacement should that become necessary. Something to take into

    consideration before starting.
