All my old email from my hotmail account got TRANSFERRED to my mac mail and are no longer online. Not what I wanted to happen. Can I have them returned to my hotmail account and have the mail account mirror my online hotmail account?

Depending on local settings, Mail.app can copy read messages locally, which is probably what happened here. POP is also fond of downloading read messages off the server. As for your question, select and drag the messages back into a mailbox/folder on the server.
I tried dragging the emails back into a mailbox/folder in hotmail as you suggested but the files can't be coppied between these two programs. It was worth a try.....thanks
