Messages does't work after upgrade to Macbook Pro Retina from Macbook Pro

I have recently purchased a Macbook Pro Retina and used Time Machine to restore my back-up from a 2-year old Macbook Pro.

The only thing that doesn't work now is Messages.

I have made sure that the Apple ID and phone number is the same, have reinstalled Messages but nothing seems to work. I have also read through several forum threads and tested many other "fixes" with no success.

Looking for any help as that feature is one of the most time saving for me.

MACBOOK PRO (RETINA, 13-INCH,EARLY 2013), OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.3)
