not really a apple / mac guy
the screen flipped when I got it but now the icon at the info bar at the top of the screen has a LOCK symbol with a arrowed circle around it.
iPhone 4S
Double tap the home button, swipe to the right, and you will find a similar icon in the multi-tasking tray. Tap that and it will turn the portrait lock off.
if this is an iPhone you can press the home button twice and swipe once to the left you will see that same lock sybol there tap it and it will unlock the orientation
