Why does my macbook pro (mid 2010) keep crashing after installing latest Mountain Lion?

In cases where an update seems to cause problems with a system that was running well before the update installing the combo update for that system might help.

While installing the combo update is safe it is always highly recommended that in cases like this you have a good working backup before proceeding.

If you are experiencing the problem described in this bulletin on a MacBook Pro 6,2 2010, you should print out the article (as a hedge against them not knowing about this program) and make an appointment at the Genius Bar for an evaluation of whether you have the defect.

They need to run a special diagnostic for exactly this problem -- Do not leave until they have run the test, it is really quick and the standard "overnight bake" will not detect it.

Be sure you have a backup before you go, as if it fails the test, it is usually a depot-level repair (not overnight).

EDIT: Maybe they should look at your husband while he is there. Usually folks want to throw Windows at their Mac, not the other way around.😝

If you have more than one user account, you must be logged in as an administrator to carry out these instructions.

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:

☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)

☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.

☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.

Select the most recent panic log under the heading System Diagnostic Reports on the left. If you don't see that heading, select

View ▹ Show Log List

from the menu bar. Post the entire contents of the panic report — the text, please, not a screenshot.
