Video choppy and causes frequent hard crashes - flash player issue?

Hi there I recently upgraded to 10.6.8 as my old Mac was running slowly. Since the upgrade video playback has been significantly worse - videos freeze, jump and the sound gets out of sync. This also seems to cause frequent hard crashes of the Mac (also occured during a Skype call). I've tried to uninstall and reload an older version of Flash Player but it doesn't seem to have any effect, neither did installing the click to flash extension, or installing Chrome. Any ideas on how to resolve this? Error report below - currently have Flash player 11.7 installed. Hope someone can advise!

MacBook, Mac OS X (10.6.8), Safari 5.1.9

Hi Don - I haven't tried that suggestion as from reading the comments it sounds as though I would need to do the process each time I switch off/on the Macbook. The problem is still much as described, although I sometimes find emptying the cache helps. Just now whilst writing an email I got the grey screen scroll down and the message to restart the computer (no flash player involved). Also, I often get the Safari Keychain ID box appear and I have to input the password when I'm logging in to email or putting a username and password on a website So I'm wondering if there is something else causing the instability? Are there any other frustrated Snow Leopard users who have found a resolution for similar issues?

Hello J - I guess I am not seeing where doing the process would be required after a restart, so I might have missed that part, but it sounds like the bigger issue is that you are getting kernel panics. If this started only after you installed 10.6.8 then it could be like trying to find a needle in a haystack to correct this. There could be code in an application that was compatible with your previous system but not with 10.6.8. It could be a lot of things. I would look at wiping the drive and performing a clean installation of the OS and all applications. This is something I rarely find that I need to do on a Mac. As an alternative, you could try installing a fresh 10.6.8 system on an external hard drive, installing flash and a couple of other applications, then booting off of that drive and testing to see if that runs smoothly. If the panics have just started after the 10.6.8 upgrade, then you can probably rule out a hardware issue.

Have a look here for some ideas on how to troubleshoot kernel panics further:
