Please try again later." i only use imessage, not any other like gtalk n all that. I tried many things but dint work so, HELP please! oh yeah n my imessage was working yesterday, when it came from apple care after the replacement, but then i updated it from 10.8.2 to i think 10.8.3 n imessage stopped working.

    Hi Ralph and all,

Have any suggestion how to "put back" serial number for MacBook Pro 17 2.2 i7 early 2011. FYI I had replaced my logic board with third party, not the authorized Apple service centre. Will authorized Apple service centre do it?

    Hi,

If you have the logic board changed but they didn't flash the serial number, it is a simple matter. Either they or any authorized Apple technical service can and will flash it for you. On the other hand if your case is like mine and they have flashed something wrong or different you can't have it reflashed. Can't force them to change the logic board again -at least in Turkey- either. Doesn't matter if you provide them the paperwork and original invoices. Once flashed it is burned forever with that serial. I am waiting the Apple Shop to open finally in February. Maybe their policy will be different though...

    Hi,

Of all the posts I have seen regarding this people seem to be turning up at Apple Stores and getting this done free of charge without any issue.

I can't say I have seen any post where someone has used an Apple Authorised Service Provider (AASP).

I would think it fair to say though that this was required at the OS X 10.8.2 update and there have been several OS X 10.8 updates since and the release of Mavericks which has also had it's first update. (and I would guess OS X 10.9.2 is around the corner one of these Tuesdays).

At some point Apple are going to say that people should have this sorted and may start charging.

I know that is an old tread, however I'm having exactly the same issue with an Early 2015 Macbook Pro. After a logic board replacement (at the Apple Store), now that machine can't send iMessages, FaceTime does't work and "El Capitan" continuity stopped working as well.

I've escalated the issue to level 2 support on Apple and they mentioned that engineering is working on this, however it's been weeks and they haven't found a solution yet.

I tried everything that you mentioned, my mac serial number is ok, so I think that the logic board was flashed correctly.

Apple mentioned that they have seen this issue on several new machines, maybe the issue is widespread.

    Hi,

I think the issue is somewhere "in-between" for Apple.

There are many threads, with many contributors, here at the Apple Discussions.

However compared to how many Computers are out there and the numbers using iMessages the numbers are relatively small.

This will mean at time we will get hints like your s that there is concern at Apple whilst the action is still  digging around trying to find out why as they don't have a fix yet.

Whilst the issue in OS X 10.8.2  was directly tied to the absence of the Serial Number on repaired Machines we know that since Mavericks similar issues of the Apple ID listed for a Mac has been an issue for some since then.

For some it is the Upgrade to OS X 10.11.

For some it seems it is the Update to 10.11.3 specifically that causes it.

As to what machines it is happening on  it is difficult to tell.

I thinks I have seen both older and newer hardware listed n posts.

Most "Me Too" posts don't contain that info anyway.

I also don't think it is one type such as Desktops rather then Laptops or Mac Minis and Mac Pros that don't have cameras for instance.

On top of that  it is a rule in the Terms of Use for this site that Polls cannot be carried out.

    Hi Ralph,

I am having the same problem but when I look at the host file I see this.  It looks like it's missing the last line?  How can I edit it?

Everything else you recommended I have tried (except I just run first Aid as it doesn't give me the option in the bottom left)

    Thank you!!

    Hi,

I have checked my EL Capitan version and mine looks the same as yours.

It would appear that Apple have changed it  rather than yours being "wrong".

It may pay to start a new thread stating which version of the OS you have and which version of Messages.

This thread started in May 2013

The issue seemed to be related to a  missing Serial Number on a replacement Logic/Mother board.

If that is a factor that led you to this thread you need to mention that as well.
