Q: My keyboard stops working and I get a "drive ejected incorrectly" or some such message. ***?

Twice now on my 2 month old iMac I've gotten an error message telling me to eject the drive before I disconnect it, and then my keyboard and the mouse connected to it dies. I reconnect the mouse to the back of the machine and restart a few time until it comes back.

What is going on?

Should I not be connecting the mouse through the keyboard?

I am not ejecting any drives at this point by the way, it just fails in mid-stride.

What can I plug into my keyboard?
