What is the best channel to put your AirPort Extreme on for the 5.0 GH

What is the best channel to put your AirPort Extreme on for the 5 GH and the 2.4 GH mine is set to channel 1 an 145 but it just seems like its not performing like it should. A apple adviser told me to set it on those, I have AT&T fastest Internet they sell and yet when I try to operate my iPhone , iPad and iMac it really slows way down. I was wondering if I changed those settings to something else would it help?

Channel 1 is the most crowded setting on the 2.4 GHz band since many wireless routers default to that channel.

Try channel 11 or 6 in that order for 2.4 GHz to see if you get better results.

Try channel 36 or 40 on the 5 GHz band.

I've found through experimentation that I get better results using the Automatic setting for both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz, but some users swear by setting channels manually.
