Why have my buttons for maximize, minimize and close turned gray?

The X - and + buttons on all my windows are all gray. What has happened? 10.7.5.

MacBook Air, Mac OS X (10.7.5)

Howdy, Troutbum63.

The change is due to a change in the 'Appearance' setting ('Blue' has likely been changed to 'Graphite') in the General pane of your System Preferences.

This article provides detailed steps and information for getting there.

  1. From the Apple () menu, choose System Preferences.
  2. Choose View > General.

To change the colors of the window elements from the default blue appearance, you can choose Graphite from the Appearance pop-up menu to make OS X take on a cool, monochromatic graphite color.

Cheers!
