Every smart phone is providing App lock for individual apps then why apple makes his customers comfortable by providing the same.
By delaying in providing these kind of facilities to his customers Apple might loose its Charm cause these things are essential, apple should allow to lock social apps like messaging, whatsapp, Facebook and many more.

Whether an app has its own passcode is up to the app developer, not Apple. So, start complaining to the app developers that you want to see individual passcodes for.
If you go to Settings > General > Restrictions you can lockout apps and place a passcode control on their use.
After jailbreak it is possible then why can't apple directly provide the same features in setting after doing minor changes in its OS

Moment you click on restrictions it unfolds all the folders and even then you can't put restrictions on Whatsapp or message
Lock code is for phone only not for apps, once you opened it and given to kids to play game on it then you can't stop your kids to open any app, because you can't stand there every time.
The app developer has to build that functionality into the app. If they did not, you can pascode lock the phone completely.
Those are your choices.
If you don't want your kids to see your stuff while they're playing a game, you can use guided access to prevent them from leaving the app they are in.
I've already given you your only options: complain to the app developers or suggest Apple add this functionality to iOS.
