Discrepancy in number of items in a collection

Through the iTunes U public site manager, I have uploaded 354 items to a particular iTunes U collection. When I open iTunes and then navigate to that collection in iTunes U, there are only 276 items actually listed, and to complicate matters more, iTunes U says that there are a total of 301 items in that collection. When I take the link to the collection and post it in my browser, I am told that there are 301 items in the collection.

Anyone else experience a discrepancy like this? Anyone have any ideas on how to resolve it and have all 354 items in this collection be visible? In the public site manager I have saved the changes within the collection and I have even re-published the site. This has now been weeks and "newly" uploaded items are not showing up in the iTunes U collection. Any advice would be appreciated.

I probably should have added that this is an Apple hosted feed.

I created a collection using an apple hosted feed, added 4 new items, but it still says I have 0 items in the collections dashboard.

I also created a collection using an apple hosted feed, added three files with the metadata and when I try to publish I get an error message saying that I have 0 files and the feed cannot be published.

"Provider Hosted" Collections have a hard limit on the number of items shown (something round 320 AFAIK, everything else will be ignored), maybe you've been bitten by that limit too?

Again, my experience stems from the RSS kind, but it stands to reason that the same limit applies to all collections.

Just a thought.

Mine is a new feed with only 6 total items. The dashboard still lists it at 0 however.

Probably a stupid question but, what timestamp do you see when looking at the "last updated" column in PSM?

I know "Apple Hosted" but still…

One other thing, the videos in question are in compliance with the regulations regarding videos on Apple Hosted feeds, aren't they? PSM seems to "belive" in the extension.

Erik... thanks for he insight. I'm in an email conversation with an iTunes U support team person. Stay tuned - I'll be sure to share what I find out.

The timestamp question is a good one. It shows my last publish for this collection as June 27, 2011... obviously incorrect but adds to the mystery. As for file formats... all .mp4 videos so should be in compliance.

Here is an update for my feed in case it helps someone. My feed showed 0 items and would not publish. The file sizes and formats were correct. I uploaded one new file without metadata to see what would happen. iTunes U did recognize that the feed had a file in it and I then got the publish option on the publish page. I then deleted the last file I uploaded and still got the publish option.

So, I then published the feed and everything is working correctly. Either this workaround fixed it OR someone at Apple saw this discussion thread and fixed the glitch.
