how do I add emoticons to my iPhone for texting?

I've downloaded emoticon apps so that I can use them for texting, but the globe icon does not appear in my texting options. How do I get the option to insert emoticons? 😢

Actually the keyboard you want to add is the Emoji keyboard.

Keep in mind that if you send Emoji to non-iPhone users, they may not show up as anything but garbage characters.
