how do i get my panorama picture to take without it finishing before I'm done?

I'm trying to take a panoramic picture but every time I start the camera will finish the picture before I can even turn slightly. I don't even see directions to "slow down" or move it just files the first frame as though I were finished. Any tips?

iPhone 4S, iOS 6.1.4

From the iPhone User Manual:

Take a panorama photo (iPhone 4S or later): Tap Options, then tap Panorama. Point iPhone where you want to start, then tap User uploaded file. Pan slowly in the direction of the arrow, holding iPhone steady. Try to keep the arrow directly on top of the horizontal line. When you finish, tap Done.

Reverse the panning direction: Tap the arrow.

A few extra clarifications.

  • For Panorama, the phone orientation MUST be vertical.
  • Select Panorama in options, frame the start of the left side of the panorama pic, TAP the camera icon.
  • Keep fingers AWAY from screen while taking shot to avoid unwanted the unwanted stop you're getting.
  • Start moving steadily and in level to the right; phone will tell you if you need to move faster or slower, keep arrow level with the guide line.
  • Either move till you reach the end or tap Done.
  • On an i5 with 8MP camera, the result will be LARGE.
