7th gen automatic bluetooth pairing?

I can get my ipod nano 7th gen to connect with my car's A2DP stereo without problems.

But why doesn't it automatically connect the next time I get in the car? I've already paired it. Do I really have to go to Ipod "settings", "bluetooth", and manually connect it to the car stereo every time?

This is unlike every other bluetooth audio device I've ever used in my car. All other devices remember the pairing, and will start playing over the car stereo as soon as I hit "play" on the paired device. Does Ipod not support this?

Yes, it supports it. The Cadillac SRX I was driving had no problem connecting with the Nano each time I started it and played the song it was on from where I left off.

Delete the pairing from your Nano and your vehicle and try it again. If it still does not work you might check with your service department to see if a firmware update is available for your head unit.

I'm having the same issue. I have a bluetooth adapter for my car and the ipod recognizes the device and appears like its trying to pair / connect automatically but it won't until I manually touch (select) the devise. I also purchased a second bluetooth device and same problem. Both devices were best available and A2DP. I called Apple and they couldn't help. BUT IT IS AN ISSUE WITH THE iPod and NOT the bluetooth car devices because my iPhone 5 works perfectly AND my old iPod touch works as well BUT NOT THE iPod 7th Gen. Piece of crap!!!

I agree that it's an issue with the iPod 7th gen. NOT the car stereo. I have many other bluetooth devices, and none of them need to be connected manually, every time, to the car stereo like the iPod. I am certain I'll eventually get a ticket for texting while driving, or worse... get in an accident, while I have to fumble around with the iPod for these unecessary steps.

This is a serious iPod bug. Where should it be reported?

If you think the cop who pulls you over cares about what device exactly is causing your distraction, you're living in a dream world.

I have reported this bug to Apple. I'd like to verify that my nano behaves the same with my other bluetooth devices (PCs, tablets, phones). Most will discover, some will pair, but none will connect. (granted... I haven't confirmed that each of these devices support A2DP but I know at least some of them do).

I guess I should consider myself lucky that the nano can connect to my car stereo at all... even manually.

Let's see, mine works on 4 cars I've used it in, my UE9000 headphones, my jambox, all of which I've easily confirmed have A2DP, but you, who cannot even confirm if your devices have A2DP, have confirmed it is a bug? I can tell you that your PC, tablet and phones are not A2DP players and your Nano will not connect with them. That is normal.

What kind of car stereo do you have?

Your right, I guess I don't know anything about those cops who are driving around out there. Glad you pointed that out. But you still haven't said how the Nano can text.

My iPod Nano 7th Gen will not automatically connect with any Blue Tooth Adapter I've waisted money on because of Apple. I've purchased the Griffen BlueTrip, the Belkin Hands Free, or the GoGroove by BlueGate. All three devices are A2DP. Apple replaced my first Nano 7th Gen because they could not determine the issue, yet same issue. In addition, it is incredibly odd that my iPhone 5 and old iPod Touch DO work and connect immediately when I get in my car.

I've filed a claim with Apple and spoke with a supervisor that still has not called me back on my case number.

It's pretty obviouse the iPod Nano 7th Gen has a hardware or software issue.

Problem also exists on iPod touch with iOS6 & greater. I've wasted days trying to sort bluetooth out so have bought an iPod touch 3rd gen which uses iOS5.1.1 - there don't seem to be the same issues with 5.1.1.

My understanding that it's an iOS6 problem and sounds like it's also latest Nano versions issue as well.

Certainly not ideal. You buy an Apple product as they are touted as the best, trouble is not everything works as it should.

Deggie - Never turned off the BT on the Nano, it sits in my car and I wish it worked with at least one device, just one and i would be happy. I have spent at least $400 on the iPod Nano 7th and 3 high quality brand name BT adapters - Griffen, Belkin, and BlueGate. It's NOT the devices, they work with the iPhone 5 and my older iPod touch. I had the original iPod Touch replaced with a new one and it still won't connect without me having to manually go into settings to connect it each and every time. Apple advertises on its website and in stores that the iPod Nano will connect without missing a beat.

I filed a claim and Michael from Apple has not closed the claim or returned my calls.

Michael (Apple) you said would follow up within48 hours and I never heard from you. I even left you 2 voice mails and still no response. I'm out $400 for a non functioning device that is falsely advertised.

Michael you still have an open case - what's the deal?

I didn't say you worked for Apple, I simply responded to your question. But you're right I didn't read your question carefully, Sorry. Yes I did "Forget This Device" on my iPhone and iPods so that JUST my Nano 7th was paired and no other devices. Trust me I went through all the possible solutions many times over and over again. IT DOES NOT WORK! I've spent hours on the phone with apple, spent hours with a "Genius" at the store, replaced the original nano 7th for a new one, purchased 3 Apple honered brand adapters, tried all the solutions, updated the OS, and it won't connect automatically as advertised or as it should.

The rest of my response was NOT dircted toward you when I referred to Michael at Apple, which is obvious in my response. Not sure why you thought I was directing it on you. I was directing my frustration on Apple, my still unresoloved claim number, and Michael at Apple for not following through with the claim as promised.

I can back you up Ben. I've also tried every possible solution, and the Nano bluetooth does not work as advertised... or even as reliably as their low-end competitors.

Many consumers are intelligent enough to rule out obvious things like turning off other devices, all by ourselves. We're familiar with the scientific method... we don't need fanboy trolls to snark at us and shout that we must be mistaken.

Jun 14, 2013 6:19 PM in response to Pariah69

Yes they are. And then again some aren't. Those that are really intelligent state it in their post.

I really hope that everyone who is having trouble with the Nano solves their problem. I hope Ben hears back from Michael and they find out something positive.

But a blanket statement of "The Nano does not work as advertised" is incorrect. As I've already recited mine works on every device I've tried it on. If I had the devices that Ben had I would try mine on those.

But posting here that it has a "bug" or doesn't work won't accomplish anything.
