Did you try to log into another iTunes regional store?
No I didn't. Just doing what i normally do and tried to purchase an app on my iphone 4s. I entered settings and itunes/app store, view my Apple ID, clicked on Australian globe (again) and pressed Done. For some reason it righted itself. Mysterious but all ok now. Thank you for responding
