Just got my new iMac and trying to load Minecraft but getting error message the minecraft is damage and should move to trash.  I tried control-clicking in finder to bypass gatekeeper security but that does not work either.  Any recommendations?

iMac, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.3)

Is Minecraft a Java application?  I seem to recall so.  Have you checked that you're running the lastest version of Java?  It's got more holes than swiss cheese so Apple regularly disables older versions of Java.

I just performed an software update but I am not sure if I have the latest version, how do I confirm?

    1.  Go into "System Preferences..." > "Security & Privacy" > "General"

    2.  Change the Gatekeeper option from whatever it was to "Allow applications downloaded from: Anywhere"

    3.  Launch Minecraft once.

    4.  Change the Gatekeeper settings back to whatever you want them to normally be set.

It's a problem with Java application stubs and Gatekeeper.  Any other Java application you run may very well have the same problem.

I have the latest Java. do you know if this is specifically a Java problem or does Minecraft have spyware or adware or some other "ware" that I should be wary of?

Sethie you might of got it from another site DONT GET CRACKED MINECRAFT! that has many bugs and can cause viruses if you got it from a site other than minecraft.net get a antivirus scan for viruses delete you minecraft then click here <- dont worry this is official minecraft and tri guy rob other websites than the offical minecraft website might have viruses if you are planning to buy the game go to minecraft.net but sethie also go to security in system prefrences and trust minecraft if the option is set to only trusted devs and app store
