how do I make my Sony Handycam DCR-SX40 compatible with iMovie?
I have an older macbook (2006) and I want to use my Sony Handycam with iMovie but it is not compatible. What software do I need to download and where can I find it?
Both iMovie 09 and iMovie 11 support this camera through USB cable.
iMovie 11 needs at least OSX 10.7 and preferebly 10.8, so that may not be possible on your 2006 model.
iMovie 09 requires OSX 10.5.6 or later.
Check to see if your 2006 model supports the remaining system requirements. If it is an Intel Mac, it probably does, but if it is a PowerPC Mac, you need to check carefully.

iMovie 09 is no longer for sale by Apple, but you may be able to find copies as part of iLife 09 on sites like Amazon or eBay.
