Can't find new photos.

I have a brand new (2 days old) MacBook Air, running 10.8.2. I successfully transferred all my files, photos, and settings from my old MacBook to the new one using the Migration Assistant. I have discovered that I can't "find" my newer photos anywhere! Today I took some photos, and transferred them from my camera to iPhoto. I can see within iPhoto that a certain photo has a name, i.e., DSC04245, but when I go to look for it in the finder windows, a search cannot locate it. I've tried the search function, I've tried going through all the files, but to no avail. The last roll number is there from before I transferred the file, but I cannot find the roll I just uploaded. The photos are there in Iphoto, but not in my computer files. What's changed? How can I find my photos?

Hi,

When you import photos directly into iPhoto then they are within iPhoto's database.

If you wish to view the files within Finder then you must open that database first. To do so, navigate to where your iPhoto Library is (by default it is located in the Pictures folder), right click on it and select Show Package Contents. You'll then be able to search and view the actual files.

I would strongly advise that you do not add or remove photos from there though. If you wish to add/remove photos from iPhoto then only do so from within iPhoto itself.

Agreed. Which is why, Larry, I actually stated "I would strongly advise that you do not add or remove photos from there though. If you wish to add/remove photos from iPhoto then only do so from within iPhoto itself."

Yes -

but you did not provide any help on the correct way to access the photo

IMHO after seing thousands of disasters from people who show package contents and make changes either accidentially or on purpose and knowing that when you show package contents you not only endanger the integitery of your iPhoto library but you have a high probablity of not finding the correct version of the photos you want (there are two or three versions of every photo in the iPhoto library) and since there is never a reason to dig around inside the iPhoto library contents and it is not a supported method of access the better advice is

1 - not suggest a dangerous course of action but suggest to stay out of the library and do not use show package contents

and

2- provide the correct access methods so the OP knows how to do it correctly

I am now a happy camper. I have been trying to access the photos (for uploading to Blogger, for example) by clicking on the Pictures icon. That icon takes me directly to the files on the hard drive, where it was next-to-impossible to locate the photos. I never knew (until now) about the Photos icon that is below it (you have to scroll to see it, so I never saw it), and am pleased to see that it now offers me thumbnails of the photos. Love it. For a while there I was not too pleased with the new system - only because I wasn't using it correctly. Thanks for the assistance - and I promise to not mess around in the files.
