I would suggest reinstalling OSX. You can reinstall from the Restore Partition. (Restart Mac and hold down the Option key)
If this is in the first 90 days, or if you have AppleCare, you can call and have them help you through it for free.

Thanks... did just that... reinstalled after downloading it from App store. It worked.
