iphones sync stops when "determining apps to sync"

My iPhone 4s does not sync with itunes. It starts syncing as usual but the sync times out once it reaches "Determining apps to sync". In itunes it shows that music, videos and pictures are synced but none are found in my phone. I have rebooted the computer and phone a few times but it didnt work. Please help.
