iPod not getting past apple screen

I hadn't charged my iPod touch for awhile and went to charge it today. I plugged it into my computer and saw the red battery. It eventually showed the apple, but stayed on that and never turned on. Every now and then, when it goes black, I press the home button, it shows the red battery again and eventually goes to the apple. I have had it plugged in for about an hour.

Will it eventually turn on? What else should I do?

Try:

- iOS: Not responding or does not turn on

- Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

- If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.

- Try on another computer

- If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.
