can an xserve running 10.5.8 handle clients machines running 10.8.3

I have an xserve running 10.5.8. We got three new machines running 10.8.3. None of the programs on the client machines want to open, iphoto, mail, contact etc.

Xserve, Mac OS X (10.5.8)

I've got 3 machines working this way under 10.5.8 server. I typically use AFP for homes. I saw the problems that you are talking about. I had to switch to using an NFS share home dirs for those users for the 3 ML workstations to work.
