internet recovery problem

hi everyone,

i have purchased mac os x mountain lion 10.8 for my mbp. after a couple of mounts i have decided to format my hdd and reinstall everthing.

i have pressed COMMAND+R while starting my mac and internet recovery mode opened.

there are four chocies:

1-restore from time machine

2- reinstall mac os x

3-get online help

4-disk utility

in the disk utility i have format my HDD. and then i clicked to "reinstall mac os x"

so far it went so good...

after i clicked to "reinstall mac os x", Mac OS X 10.7 install screen appeared. (i was expecting mac os x 10.8)

i thought after i have install 10.7, i can upgrade to 10.8 so i clicked to continue. i entered my Apple id and password.

i got the error "you do not have purchased mac os 10.7"

i know i have bought mac os x 10.8 not 10.7 and i want to install 10.8.

but how can i install 10.8 using internet recovery?

Internet Recovery will load the version of OS X that came with your system. In this case it was OS X 10.7, so this is what will load.

However, once OS X 10.7 is installed, you can log into the Mac App Store and download the installer for OS X 10.8 and upgrade that way, which should be a free download since you have already purchased OS X 10.8.

An alternative to this is to not use Internet Recovery and instead boot to the OS X Recovery partition (the local one on your boot drive), which should download the installer for the current version of OS X that the system is running.

Holding Command-R should load to the local recovery partition and not Internet Recovery, but only if a valid local recovery partition is available. Holding Option-Command-R will force the system to boot to Internet Recovery. If you are only holding Command-R and are getting Internet Recovery instead of the local one, then your recovery HD partition may be corrupted or missing. Therefore, if you cannot load the local one then I would recommend you go through with the current installation, and then upgrade from the Mac App Store.

I also recommend that after you have downloaded OS X 10.8 from the App Store, that you create a bootable USB installation drive from the installer (see here: http://reviews.cnet.com/8301-13727_7-57479690-263/how-to-create-an-os-x-10.8-mou ntain-lion-install-drive/) so you can reload OS X 10.8 without having to first download OS X 10.7 and then OS X 10.8 from the App Store.

Did your Mac originally come with OS X 10.7 installed, or did it come with OS X 10.6 "Snow Leopard" and you purchased Lion separately? If this is the case then you will have to contact Apple to see what can be done about your Apple ID, or you can go back to installing OS X 10.6 from the recovery discs that came with your comptuer, and then update it to 10.6.8, followed by downloading the latest version of OS X from the App Store.

i live in Turkey. i can not go any apple service in here because there is any.

i want them to call me, i tried to fill the form, but in the county list there is no Turkey... it doesn't any phone number from Turkey

i will ask Bilkom which is Turkey distributor for Apple products...

if that doesn't work i dont know what to do...

(at least i have learned my problem thank for the answers)

i will tell them:

my mac came with 10.6 and my installation cd doesn't work.

i have purchased 10.8 but internet recovery tries to install 10.7 and my apple id doesn't work for 10.7

Bilkom did not help me. they suggested me to buy 10.7 too or buy 10.6 installation CD.

the situation made be very disappointed about Apple and their way to work...

i thought to call them today but i think my english is not good enough to explain my problem to apple.

Then what, i was using windows OS until last year. and i was very happy to get apple and mac os. it was really amazing. but i have never ever faced any situation with windows like i have know with mac...

thanks for all the answer and concern...

tr support doesn't have a phone number to contact. in the end you will be leaded to a country list to pick one. there is no turkey in the list.

but finally i called them (US Apple care). They told me to buy 10.6 installation disk or buy Mac OS x 10.7. after that i can upgrade 10.8 which i have already purchased.

i answered them it doesn't really make any sence to pay an operating system that i'm not gonna use.

they suggested me to find a friend who has a mac with os 10.8, and ask him to make a recovery disk for me.

one of my friend has a mac, i will try it and i will share the results here...

Hey guys sorry for adding, hm I did the same thing above. I got 10.7 also. Before my mbp was running OS X mountain lion that I got for free without purchase by redeem it because when I bought mbp, 2 days after that day, the mountain lion released. So I got it for free. Will I get mountain lion for free later on apple store?

Quite a few people have reported that. I think the only thing you can do is contact AppleCare or use the Support link on the App Store and ask them. Even though your Mac shipped with Mountain Lion, Apple's servers thinks it shipped with Lion, so it installs Lion in Internet Recovery.
