I don't have any experience trying to use home sharing and iTunes Match at the same time. Perhaps that's what's causing the problem. For troubleshooting purposes, maybe you should turn off home sharing on your iPad, then try iTunes Match and see if it works properly that way.
Try force closing the Music app: from the home screen, double-tap the home button, locate Music in the list at the bottom, tap and hold it until it wiggles, tap to close it, tap the home button again. Open Music and see if this made any difference.
