In the last two-three days, when I try to do voice to text, Siri goes nutso. If the text is too long, she goes off on a tangent about how long my "question" is and can I ask it in a more simple fashion? This doesn't happen if the text is brief. This is a recent problem - prior to this, I could dictate very long texts, and other than a few problems in translation, Siri had no problem with it. Anyone else experiencing this?
iPhone 4S, iOS 5.1
Switch Siri OFF (Settings > General > Siri: ) then
Reset: Hold down the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears. Note: You will not lose any data
Switch back ON.
Sorry, that didn't help. I tried to dictate a three sentence text. Here is what Siri said:
"My great-grandmother used to say to his wife, my great-grandmother, who in turn told her daughter, my grandmother, who repeated it to her daughter, my mother, who used to remind her daughter, my own sister, that to talk well and eloquently was a very great art, bu that an equally great one was to know the right moment to sop. You have IOS5.1? Maybe you should update your iPhone IOS to 6.1.3.
Are you using any app like messages/mail... when dictating?
I don't think you can get iOS6.1.3 any more since iOS 6.1.4 came out a few days ago bu tI could be wrong> I take that back the OP has a 4S
You are not informed, IOS 6.1.4 is ONLY for iPhone 5.

I am having exactly the same problem, and it's frustrating the **** out of me. I don't think this started with the new iOS, I believe it just began happening a day or so ago. I'm beyond frustrated, this was something i relied upon heavily, and I want to know what the **** the problem is!

No...just trying to dictate a text using my hands free set (Apple earbuds). It happens without those too...I tried yesterday while chatting with Apple.
I'm having the same problem with SIRI. It seems to have started once I did the latest update to the OS. Siri just gives me quotes from people and then says can you ask me that in fewer words. I tried the solouton above of turing SIRI off and holding down the sleep/wake button and home button until the Apple Logo appeard but it did not help. I have the latest updates for my IPhone 5
In have an iPhone 4S, if this is a problem with the updates on Apple's end, then a plague on their house! Who knows when the next update will be, and even then, who knows if this will be fixed with it?!
I just finished a chat with Apple and they basically don't know what to do about it. Gave me a case number and a number to call to report it to their engineers. I encourage others to do the same, so they know how many others are having the same problem. Keep us updated!
I tried having a chat with Apple about this and got a canned response that SIRI
is in beta and changes happen. The tech said it was to be expected that with
all the users SIRI would restrict message size.. Sigh...
So at least according to thier support staff this is FAD. I doubt that' true Maybe
if more call in and complain they might do something about this. With this broken
texting with SIRI is next to impossible
