Someone correct me if I'm wrong, I do not own one but have looked into them to expand photo storage on my iPad while traveling to create a backup, which will not work.

Most of these wifi drives for iOS devices require a computer to copy the media onto the drive. The iPad can only read the media file on the drive and is not able to save files to the drive. You also have to use an app provide by the manufacturer to veiw the media files.

My solution is to use an online service such as Dropbox.

There are some wireless external hard drives that can be used with the iPad.

I use a Kingston Wi-Drive with my phone and it works just fine. However, in reality you really need a PC to put the stuff on it in the first place as the iphone or ipad can only read the files - no writing possible. I usually store movies on the drive which saves space on my phone. To put them there in the first place you need a PC (or Mac) as it connects directly via USB.
