After restart client says "ARD not active"

When I start the ARD application a client says that ARD is not active, despite the fact that under Sharing the Remote Desktop is running indeed. This always happens when the client has had a fresh restart. When I stop en start the client software ARD becomes available again.
But I like to see "available" without stop and start.
I use ARD 3.0 and Airport Express with the right ports enabled.

You don't say whether you are restarting the clients
remotely or locally. I get the feeling that you
might not be waiting long enough.

Try this after restarting a client (either way.)
Wait up to 5 minutes before giving up and tweaking
the clients. Refresh the computer list in the
administration machine's ARD program (Cmd-Y.)

i have no results in doing this. behind the Scanner I see a black icon wth the right IP number, but no names, only Airport as network.
I waited several minutes and no change in status.

I forgot to mention: I restarted the client physically.
