Sony sd-card read as device instead as camera

Hi, I bought a Sony HDR-PJ320E camera because of it's compatibility with imovie and fcpx.

But for some reason fcpx doens't read the private file anymore after formatting the disk.

Fcpx read the sd card as a device instead of a camera.

I think that the problem started after I reformated the sd-card in the camera to empty it.

Anyone knows about this problem.

And how can I recuperate my movie files?

Thankt a lot for helping me.

you shouldn't see any 'private' folders in FCPX ....

two examples:

straight from SDcard (my Lumix FZ38 also formats to 'NO NAME'), no 'private' just straight to the clips.

now, from an 'Archive'/backup from another card/recording:

as you can see: that archive is well digged onto an extHDD, into some folder, into another one - but again, selecting the folder which contains the whole AVCHD structure (!!) lists all clips as usual.

are you sure, you're selecting the right folder?

and, we talk about actual FCPX v08 ? .....

Hope the not to much of quality loss.

that is the worst method optional!

mts is h.264, so why converting it?! a re-wrap is faster and smarter.

HB converts from one lossy mts into another lossy mp4, and on final export you probably will use h264 again = 3x lossy encoding!!

solve problems by avoiding them! 😉

and I'm thaaat close to call Handbrake a pest! It's by concept a DVD>>iPod/iPad/AppleTV converter, no 'universal' tool! for straight conversions from h264 >> proRes use ClipWrap.-

Thanks Karsten,

I'm working FCP 10.0.7

I understand what you talking about. But no way to read the SD card like the way you explain.

I'll show you 2 examples.

Card 1// 4G SD card

Card 2// 32SD card (formated the same way)

This is what I get in FCP

Card 1// Everything works fine - read as CAMERA 🙂

User uploaded file

Card 2// Card is read as device and show content instead of movie files 😟

I'm getting nuts about it.

Ithinks I will convert the .MTS files by Handbrake and Compressor into ProRes files.

Hope there will not be to many quality loss.

Any thanks a lot for your help,

Filip

formatted same, but different used!

see the MP_ROOT folder?

that indicates, you use the media for TWO different codecs (my assumption: AVCHD and mp4). This 'confuses' FCPX (or iMovie for what matter), because the STANDARDS are 'violated'.-

one media - one standard.

never mix 'video formats' onto a single media....

a lossless process:

  • drag all mts from card into some folder on your Mac
  • download & install the free AVCAM RESTORER from Panasonic
  • this 're-enact' the mts to a fully functioning AVCHD structure.
  • proceed as usual ...

noooo Handbrake! 😁

hmmm, hard to tell from remote …

My assumption is, error code -36 is an indication, that this specific mts (000276) is somehow … kaputt 😟

After copying all data (or as much as possible), I would format this SDcard and check it with the Disk Utility… maybe, just some 'blocks' are broken. Or, some major issues....

If optional, I would trash this card… in/out errors with a SDcard could mean seriously trouble - … would be sad you miss some nice moments on film, just because of a 10$ piece of plastic .. 😁
