My Ipod will not sync. I have the latest version of iTunes and when I was able to check my iPod it says that its up to date and functioning properly.

My iPod will not sync with iTunes. I have tried getting the latest version of iTunes and that did not work, I even downloaded iTunes on the desktop that has WindowXP and it still does the same thing. I was able to get it to show me my iPod on the desktop but it would not sync and iTunes didn't show my music. I looked at my iPod and it says its functionong properly and it is up-to-date. I use my laptop and when I plugged in my iPod it causes iTunes to freeze/not respond and it never shows that the iPod is plugged in. The iPod says that it is connected.
