We 've got the same mba 13" mid 2012 with Mavricks, headphones with aptx (me mdr-10rbt / you mmx550) but it don't work for me.

It work directly for you or you have to check "force use of aptx" in bluetooth explorer ?

I have also delete the com.apple.bluetooth.plist, and the audio bluetooth plist, but I always stay with the chiet SBC.

I don't think its my headphone because it is write "AAC and aptx support" contrary to the macbook air which we never seen "aptx" near to bluetooth 4.0 on apple website.

    @waniphon,

I'm looking for some new headphones and can't really decide whether to buy the older (top-spec) MDR-1RBT or the newer (budget version) MDR-10RBT. I want to use them with my iMac, MBP, iPhone/Pad or just TV (using a bluetooth dongle on my AV receiver).

While reading all the reviews I found something interesting that could perhaps solve your problem:

The sound quality on the MDR-10RBT is set to the STANDARD mode (SBC) as defaukt setting and should be changed to PRIORITY ON SOUND QUALITY (AAC, aptX) when using AAC or aptX compatible devices:

    Here's how to do it:

    http://helpguide.sony.net/mdr/10rbt/v1/en/contents/04/01/04/04.html

    Have you already tried that?

Thanks a lot man, you  solved my problem. It is now wright aptx when i go to the mdr10rbt.

The sound is just wonderful with the mdr 10rbt, the 1rbt has a better sound quality, but the difference between the 2 isn't very hugh.

I choose the 10 because it is more portable !

Here there is a comparaison between the 2 models in this review of the mdr10rbt

Thanks a lot, that solved my problem as well! The whole time looking through forums and thinking that it was my laptop it was actually my headphones that just needed to be set to "Priority on sound quality" so that it uses aptX.

    It works!!!!

    My device is AudioTechnica ATH-CKS99BT

I don't know why 10.9.2 still show nothing in the picture below, but I can tell my headset is working under APT-X is because its LED flash twice per second(APT-X) instead of once per second(non APT-X).

I found this out just moments ago regarding my MDR-10RBTs. I spent an hour futzing around with Bluetooth Explorer, unpairing other peripherals, turning everything on and off in every order I could dream of. Of course its the device.

apt-x seems to be broken in 10.9.3 @ retina 2013 MBP. Getting only SCO profile, even with force aptx.

Working on 10.9.5 on my MBPr 2013 with the sony MDR-10RBT after I configured the headphones like tdslman said.
